Gulf state type
An emirate is a territory ruled by an emir—an Islamic prince or commander.
The term appears most often in reference to the United Arab Emirates, a federation of seven such territories on the Arabian Peninsula.
Historically, emirates were common political units across the Islamic world: The emirate maintained its independence for two centuries.
