hippopotamus
Massive African mammal
A hippopotamus is a large, barrel-bodied African mammal that spends much of its time submerged in rivers and lakes.
Despite their placid appearance, hippos are notoriously aggressive and among Africa's most dangerous animals.
The plural is hippopotamuses or hippopotami.
