pygmy hippopotamus

Small African herbivore

A pygmy hippopotamus is a small species of hippopotamus native to West African forests and swamps, roughly a quarter the size of the common hippo.

Unlike their larger relatives, pygmy hippos are solitary, nocturnal, and spend less time in water.

They are endangered, with only a few thousand remaining in the wild.
