ivory trade
Elephant tusk trafficking
The ivory trade is the commercial exchange of elephant tusks and other animal ivory, historically for carved ornaments, piano keys, and decorative objects.
The trade drove elephant populations toward extinction and is now largely banned internationally, though illegal poaching and black market sales persist.
The ivory trade decimated African elephant herds throughout the twentieth century.
