Bastet
Egyptian cat deity
Bastet is an ancient Egyptian goddess, typically depicted as a cat or a woman with a cat's head.
Originally a fierce lioness deity of warfare, she evolved into a gentler protector associated with home, fertility, and domesticity.
Cats were sacred to her cult, and harming one was a serious offense.
The temple of Bastet at Bubastis drew pilgrims from across Egypt.
