Botswana
Southern African republic
Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa, bordered by South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
Once one of the world's poorest nations, it became relatively prosperous after independence in 1966, largely through diamond mining.
The Kalahari Desert covers much of its territory.
Wildlife tourism in Botswana centers on the Okavango Delta.
