blubber
Weep without restraint
Blubber is the thick layer of fat beneath the skin of whales, seals, and other marine mammals, providing insulation and energy storage.
Historically, blubber was rendered into oil for lamps and lubricants.
The word also means to cry noisily and uncontrollably, with the messy, blubbering quality of someone whose face is contorted with sobs: She blubbered through the whole funeral.
As an adjective, blubbery describes something fat or swollen: blubbery lips.
