dromedary

Single-humped desert beast

A dromedary is a one-humped camel, native to the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa.

The word distinguishes it from the two-humped Bactrian camel of Central Asia.

Dromedaries are adapted to hot desert climates and have been domesticated for thousands of years as pack animals and for riding: The caravan crossed the desert on dromedaries.
