shoebill

African stork relative

A shoebill is a large African wading bird with a massive shoe-shaped bill, standing up to five feet tall with a seven-foot wingspan.

Found in swamps of central Africa, it's known for its prehistoric appearance and statue-like stillness when hunting.

Also called shoebill stork, though it's more closely related to pelicans.
