freebooters
Lawless ocean plunderers
Freebooters are pirates or plunderers who roam in search of loot—the term evokes seafaring raiders operating outside any nation's authority.
The word extends to anyone who takes what they want without regard for rules or ownership: corporate freebooters pillaging pension funds.
A freebooter acts for personal gain, not ideology.
