wanted

Craved or sought

Wanted is the past tense and participle of want, but it has developed its own distinct uses.

As an adjective, wanted describes someone or something that is desired or sought after: a wanted man, feeling wanted.

In law enforcement contexts, a wanted person is being sought by police in connection with a crime—hence wanted posters.

The opposite, unwanted, describes something not desired or welcome: unwanted attention, unwanted pregnancy.
