filaments

Thin conducting wires

Filaments are thin threads or fibers.

The word applies to the glowing wire inside an incandescent light bulb, the fine strands of a spider's web, or threadlike structures in biology—the stalk supporting a flower's anther, or protein fibers in muscle tissue.

In astronomy, filaments are elongated structures of gas in the sun's atmosphere or vast chains of galaxies stretching across space.
