tungsten filament
Incandescent lamp's heart
A tungsten filament is the thin coiled wire inside an incandescent light bulb that glows white-hot when electricity passes through it.
Tungsten's extremely high melting point makes it ideal for this purpose.
The term appears in discussions of lighting technology, often in contrast to newer LED alternatives: The tungsten filament gives off a warm, familiar glow.
