nylon

Parachute cord material

Nylon is a synthetic polymer used to make fabric, rope, and molded products.

Developed in the 1930s, it became famous as the material for women's stockings—so much so that nylons became a word for the stockings themselves: She put on a fresh pair of nylons.

Nylon is strong, lightweight, and elastic, appearing in everything from parachutes to guitar strings to carpet fibers.
