raw silk

Undegummed textile thread

Raw silk is silk fiber or fabric that hasn't been degummed—still containing sericin, the natural protein coating from the silkworm's cocoon.

This gives it a slightly rough texture and matte appearance compared to processed silk.

Raw silk wrinkles more easily but has a distinctive nubby character prized in certain garments and upholstery: a raw silk blouse, raw silk curtains.
