down feathers
Bird's fluffy underlayer
Down feathers are the soft, fluffy feathers closest to a bird's body, beneath the stiffer outer plumage.
They trap air for insulation, making them prized as filling for pillows, comforters, and winter jackets: a down jacket, a down comforter.
Goose down is considered superior to duck down for warmth and loft.
