retraction
Taking it back
A retraction is a withdrawal of something previously said or published.
Newspapers print retractions when they've reported something false.
The word also applies to physical withdrawal—the retraction of a cat's claws, an airplane's landing gear, or a turtle's head into its shell.
To retract is to pull back or take back: He retracted his earlier statement.
