polyester
Petroleum-derived textile
Polyester is a synthetic fabric made from petroleum-based fibers, widely used in clothing, upholstery, and industrial applications.
It's durable, wrinkle-resistant, and holds color well, but breathes poorly compared to natural fibers.
The word often carries connotations of cheapness or tackiness: a polyester leisure suit from the seventies.
Polyester blends combine it with cotton or other materials for improved comfort.
