An extruder is a machine that forces material through a shaped opening to create objects with a consistent cross-section.
Plastic extruders produce pipes, tubes, and filaments; food extruders make pasta and snack foods; 3D printer extruders deposit melted filament layer by layer.
The term applies to any device that extrudes material: The extruder jammed halfway through the print.
