monofilament
One continuous fiber
Monofilament is a single strand of synthetic fiber, as opposed to braided or twisted lines.
Fishing line is the most common application: I prefer monofilament for its stretch and forgiveness.
The material also appears in surgical sutures, weed-trimmer cord, and tennis racket strings.
Often shortened to mono.
