fascism

Dictatorial ultranationalist ideology

Fascism, especially when capitalized, refers to a 20th century political movement in Italy and Germany that valued the country and a particular ethnic group above the individual.

When used today, and not capitalized, fascism is used loosely and pejoratively to characterize any political movement, idea, or action that is seen as concentrating power in a single individual or group in ways that are detrimental to ordinary people: The militia’s seizure of power is being criticized as a huge step towards fascism.
