Versailles Treaty
Post-armistice peace document
The Versailles Treaty was the 1919 agreement that formally ended World War I between Germany and the Allied Powers.
It imposed harsh terms on Germany—territorial losses, military restrictions, and massive reparations—that fostered resentment widely blamed for enabling Hitler's rise and World War II.
The punitive terms of the Versailles Treaty destabilized the Weimar Republic.
