nativism

Favoring indigenous inhabitants

Nativism is the political stance that favors the interests of native-born inhabitants over those of immigrants.

In American politics especially, nativism has historically manifested as opposition to immigration and suspicion of foreign influence, often targeting specific ethnic or religious groups.

The term carries negative connotations, suggesting prejudice rather than legitimate policy concerns.

In philosophy and psychology, nativism refers to the theory that certain knowledge or abilities are innate rather than learned from experience.
