Blackshirts

Mussolini's violent enforcers

Blackshirts were members of fascist paramilitary organizations in the early-to-mid twentieth century, named for their uniform.

The term refers primarily to Mussolini's Italian Fascist squads of the 1920s, though it extended to similar groups elsewhere, including Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists in the 1930s.

The word now evokes fascist thuggery generally.
