self-government
Ruling your own
Self-government is the governing of a territory, organization, or group by its own members rather than by an outside authority.
A colony achieves self-government when it gains independence.
The term also applies to personal discipline—the ability to regulate one's own behavior: Self-government requires resisting impulses that conflict with your goals.
