one-party state
Monopolized political system
A one-party state is a country where a single political party holds power and other parties are either banned or exist only as token opposition.
The ruling party typically controls government, media, and elections, making genuine political competition impossible.
China, North Korea, and Cuba are contemporary examples.
Also called a single-party state.
