energy crisis
Power supply emergency
An energy crisis is a period when energy supplies—especially oil, gas, or electricity—become scarce or prohibitively expensive, disrupting economies and daily life.
The term gained currency during the 1970s oil shocks but applies to any serious shortfall: The energy crisis forced factories to cut production.
Energy crises typically stem from supply disruptions, infrastructure failures, or surging demand.
