vaccine
Preventive medical injection
A vaccine is a preparation administered to stimulate the immune system to produce protection against a specific disease, typically containing weakened or killed pathogens, or components of them.
Vaccines are usually given by injection but may also be oral or nasal.
The term also applies figuratively to preventive measures against non-medical threats: The best vaccine against misinformation is critical thinking.
To vaccinate someone is to give them a vaccine.
