The Winter Olympics is an international multi-sport competition held every four years, featuring events conducted on snow or ice—skiing, skating, hockey, bobsled, and others.
Established in 1924 as a counterpart to the Summer Olympics, it rotates among host cities: Sapporo hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972.
