dependence
State of needing
Dependence is the state of relying on something or someone for support, survival, or functioning.
A child's dependence on parents is natural; an addict's dependence on a substance is pathological.
Countries may have economic dependence on trade partners.
The word often carries connotations of vulnerability or weakness: She resented her dependence on others.
Also spelled dependency, though that form more often names the condition itself or a dependent territory.
