defence
Guarding against attack
Defence is the British spelling of defense.
It covers the same range of meanings: protection against attack or harm, the case presented by the accused in legal proceedings, or the players and strategies devoted to preventing the opposing team from scoring.
The defence rested after calling its final witness.
Americans use defense in all contexts.
