barrister
Wigged court advocate
A barrister is a lawyer who argues cases in court, particularly in Britain and other Commonwealth countries.
Barristers are distinguished from solicitors, who handle legal matters outside the courtroom and prepare cases but traditionally don't appear before higher courts.
The division persists in British legal practice: She hired a solicitor, who then engaged a barrister for the trial.
