cocked hat
Pointed brim hat
A cocked hat is a hat with the brim turned up on two or three sides, worn in the 17th and 18th centuries—the triangular style associated with Napoleon and American Revolutionary soldiers.
To knock someone into a cocked hat is to defeat them decisively or render them useless.
In navigation, a cocked hat is the small triangle formed when three position lines fail to meet at a single point.
