chromatid

Duplicated chromosome copy

A chromatid is one of the two identical strands of a duplicated chromosome, joined at the centromere.

Before cell division, each chromosome replicates to form two sister chromatids; during division, these separate so each daughter cell receives one copy.

The chromatids pulled apart during anaphase.
