cytokinesis

Cytoplasm divides in two

Cytokinesis is the final stage of cell division, when the cytoplasm physically splits to form two separate daughter cells.

It follows the division of the nucleus and typically involves a pinching inward of the cell membrane in animal cells or the formation of a new cell wall in plant cells.

Cytokinesis completes the process that mitosis began.
