sister

Brother's female counterpart

A sister is a female sibling—someone who shares at least one parent with you.

The term extends to women bound by shared experience or affiliation: sisters in the struggle, sorority sisters, nursing sisters.

In Black American English, sister (often shortened to sis) is a familiar term of address among women.

Sister also designates a nun: Sister Mary Catherine.

To sister something in construction is to reinforce it by attaching a parallel piece alongside.
