A chiasma is a point where two structures cross each other.
In anatomy, the optic chiasma is where the optic nerves partially cross beneath the brain.
In genetics, a chiasma is where chromosomes exchange genetic material during cell division—the physical site of crossing over.
The plural is chiasmata or chiasmas.
