chia
Mint family seeds
Chia is a plant native to Central America whose small seeds have become a popular health food, prized for their omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
The seeds form a gel when soaked in liquid: chia pudding, chia seeds in my smoothie.
Before their nutritional revival, chia was best known from Chia Pets—novelty planters where sprouting seeds formed green "fur" on terracotta figures.
