electrolytes
Conductive dissolved salts
Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge when dissolved in bodily fluids—sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium among them.
They regulate nerve and muscle function, hydration, and blood pressure.
Sports drinks advertise electrolyte replacement for athletes who lose them through sweat: You need to replenish your electrolytes.
The term also applies in chemistry and battery technology.
