olive
Pitted Mediterranean fruit
Olive is a small oval fruit, green when unripe and black when mature, prized for eating and for the oil pressed from it.
The olive tree, native to the Mediterranean, is ancient in cultivation and symbolic of peace—an olive branch signals reconciliation.
Olive also names a dull yellowish-green color, common in military clothing: olive drab.
As an adjective, it describes skin tone: olive complexion. (Capitalized Olive is a given name.)
