slow release
Sustained delivery mechanism
Slow release describes something designed to dispense its contents gradually over time rather than all at once.
The term appears most often with medications and fertilizers: slow-release capsules, slow-release nitrogen.
The hyphenated form typically precedes a noun; without the hyphen, it follows: The medication is slow release.
