grain-free

No barley inside

Grain-free describes food made without wheat, corn, rice, oats, or other cereal grains.

The term appears most often on pet food packaging, where it signals a diet closer to what animals might eat in the wild: We switched to grain-free kibble for our dog.

For humans, grain-free diets overlap with but differ from gluten-free—all grains are excluded, not just those containing gluten.
