commandments
Rules requiring obedience
Commandments are orders or rules that must be obeyed, carrying moral or divine authority.
The term most often refers to the Ten Commandments—biblical laws given to Moses, including prohibitions against murder, theft, and adultery.
More broadly, any authoritative directive can be called a commandment: The first commandment of good writing is clarity.
