The San Francisco Bay Area, often shortened to the Bay Area, is the metropolitan region surrounding San Francisco Bay in Northern California.
It encompasses San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and numerous smaller cities across nine counties.
The region is known as a global center for technology and venture capital, home to Silicon Valley and companies like Apple, Google, and Meta.
