HOV lane
Diamond-marked traffic strip
An HOV lane is a highway lane restricted to vehicles carrying multiple occupants—typically two or more people.
HOV stands for "high-occupancy vehicle." The lanes encourage carpooling by offering faster travel during rush hour: We took the HOV lane and saved twenty minutes.
Some regions allow electric vehicles or motorcycles regardless of occupancy.
