grayness
Dull, neutral tone
Grayness is the quality of being gray—lacking strong color, brightness, or distinction.
It can describe literal color: the grayness of the winter sky.
More often it suggests dullness, ambiguity, or monotony: the grayness of bureaucratic life, moral grayness that defies simple judgments.
Also spelled greyness.
