Silicon Valley
Startup incubator region
The region in the southern San Francisco Bay Area—centered on San Jose, Palo Alto, and surrounding cities—that became the world's leading hub for technology companies and startups.
Named for the silicon used in semiconductors, the area hosts giants like Apple, Google, and Meta alongside countless startups.
The term has come to represent not just a place but a culture of innovation, disruption, and venture-backed entrepreneurship: Silicon Valley investors are betting big on AI. (Lowercase silicon valley refers generically to any tech hub.)
