Pier 39
Bay tourist wharf
Pier 39 is a waterfront shopping and entertainment complex in San Francisco, built on a former cargo pier.
It's known for its sea lions, which colonized the adjacent docks after the 1989 earthquake and became an unexpected tourist attraction.
The pier draws visitors with aquarium exhibits, restaurants, and views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge: We spent the afternoon at Pier 39 watching the sea lions.
