Rorschach

Symmetrical inkblot assessment

Rorschach refers to the inkblot test developed by Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach, in which subjects describe what they see in symmetrical ink patterns.

The test is used to assess personality and emotional functioning.

More broadly, anything described as a Rorschach is something people interpret according to their own preconceptions: The candidate's vague platform became a Rorschach for voters' hopes.
