Freud

Viennese dream analyst

Freud refers to Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), the Austrian neurologist who founded psychoanalysis.

His theories about the unconscious mind, dreams, and sexuality shaped 20th-century thought.

To invoke Freud is often to suggest hidden psychological motives: Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Freud supposedly said.

A Freudian slip is an error revealing unconscious desires.
